A Peaceful Place

This area at Greystone evolved quite seamlessly. Finding each piece was actually a simple process. I would see the item and realized that it was yet another piece of the puzzle. After initially considering adding a rug, it became evident that the space was best left simple and uncomplicated - pure if you will.

the psalter which was impossible to get a good photograph of because of the reflection

The psalter was a gift from me to the lawyer and it was created by French monks around the 1500's. Hand written on animal skin, it is an incredible piece. It originally had wine velvet trimming the frame and I covered that with a soft beige corduroy for a soft texture. The iron floor candelabra may have been used in a church and I like the lovely patina that the rust and peeling paint gives it.

The heavy, oak antique bishops chair had its back and seat recovered by me as did the pad on the kneeling prayer bench. The bench was more than likely used in the confession booth of a church.Oh, the stories it might tell.

The last item I am considering purchasing is an antique bible to place on the ledge of the prayer bench. Yes, I do like that idea. : )

Meet Stanley

He spent a bit of time on the patio the other morning, then poof, he went away. I named him Stanley before I realized he just might be Snyder, whose acquaintance I made last year.

The back yard in Pennsylvania

This stunning tree blooms in Autumn and again in the Spring. Several years ago it was transplanted from the front of the house to where it now stands.  I took this picture at the end of March.

The lawyer had "fed" the grass and it looks like a velvety emerald sea. It is cut each week and I always enjoy seeing the symmetrical lines left by the mower. I do enjoy symmetry, yes I do. Well, unless I decide that I prefer something a bit more irregular, shall we say.

Our two acres extend across the stream and through the woods to the road beyond offering a peaceful view and a quiet setting. The petite wood bridge seen at the bottom left of the photograph offers an easy way to cross the stream and enter the woods.

For the record, I have not made the trip there because, well, we have a heck of a lot of deer in the area. They pass through at least twice a day, sometimes three times. Breakfast and dinner is quite important to them. Lunch as well, especially if they ate a light breakfast.

I care not for deer.

The end.
